Meff-Art, Paintings by David Meffert
Nature has always been my escape. As a child of the 50’s growing up in the suburbs of St. Louis, we had plenty of open space to roam. There was a huge abandon quarry behind my house that offered many thrills and dangers to be explored. Forest and rivers, untouched and beaming with life. But even then I noticed civilization creeping in and taking away the natural beauty of these places. Strip malls, gas stations, 7/11 stores popping up overnight.
As I went off to college in Kansas I often went for long rides on my motorcycle through the wheat fields to find solitude to be creative. The way the wheat swayed in the wind and seemed to go on forever was mesmerizing. Throughout my life I have sought those kind of places.
Even as I worked in Advertising in Los Angeles I lived at the beach. The ability to stare out at the ocean made me feel like I was alone even though I was surrounded by 18 million people.
Pia and I now spend much time in her native Denmark, where we have a summer beach house that is in an area surrounded by farm land. The space around us inspires me to paint every day.
